Any disorder of metabolism causing excessive thirst & production of large volumes of urine is called as Diabetes, there are 2 types of diabetes: 1) Diabetes Insipidus: It is a rare metabolic disorder in which patient produces large quantities of diluted urine & is constantly thirsty. This is due to deficiency of Pituitary hormone called ADH or Vasopressin. Treatment is administration of this hormone. 2) Diabetes Mellitus: A disorder of carbohydrate metabolism in which sugars of the body are not oxidized to produce energy due to of pancreatic hormone Insulin. Diabetes is not an infectious disease but many a times it is a hereditary disease.
