First aid treatment for amputations: Amputated part can be re-implanted with a good possibility of success if it is kept dry & cool right from the first moment and the patient reaches the hospital within 3 to 4 hours. The bigger the amputated part, the shorter should be the interval between accident and surgery. In case of accidental amputation of body parts like finger, hand, etc. Remember following….

Ø   Arrest the bleeding by applying a tight bandage above the bleeding point.

Ø   Put the amputated part in clean, dry plastic bag with a knot or a piece of twin.

Ø   Keeps the closed plastic bag in another bag containing ice and water.

Ø   Make sure that neither water nor ice comes in contact with the amputated part.

Ø   Send the patient and the amputated part to nearest Hospital.

Ø   Do not allow  the victim to eat or drink anything.

Ø   Do not use any preservative
